How do you say "this", "this", in Swedish?

"Detta" or "denna".

Depending on ett or en.

To say "wait", you would say "vänta", "vänta". And, of course, at that point, you also know the "to"-form, so what is the "to"-form of "to wait"?

"Att vänta", "att vänta". What you get then is "väntar".

So how do you think you'd say "he waits"? "Han väntar". And it's not easy maybe to get it, we're going the other way this time because we have the imperative, we have the "wait", "vänta". And we know that the "to"-form should be "att vänta", "to wait". Well, then that probably means we're going to have an -ar verb here.

So, "väntar", "jag väntar", "han väntar". Okay, so how do you say "wait, I'm thinking now"?

"Vänta, jag tänker nu".

So how do you say "wait now, wait now, what are you thinking"?

"Vänta nu, vad tänker du?" And here, "tänker" usually is followed with "på", so you'd say "vad tänker du på?", "what are you thinking of?". So the "på" becomes the "of": "vad tänker du på?". Or "vad tänker du göra?", "what are you thinking of doing?".

So it's usually connected with something else. I said thinking was "tänker". But there's a different kind of thinking in Swedish. Because thinking when you say "tänker", that relates to thinking as a mental process. You're thinking with your brain, you're processing, you're thinking. But there's another type of "think" that we use in English.

So in English when we say, "What do you think about this?" we're not actually saying, "What is your mental process about this?" No, what we're saying is, "What what's your opinion about this?" So, in Swedish, you actually have a separate word for that. So, you could say "Vad tänker du om denna?" That would be, "What do you think about this?" But the more common way to say it, the more proper way to say it because you're asking about somebody's opinion, is to use the word "tycker om", "tycker om".

The interesting thing about "tycker om" is that it could mean two things: it could mean "I like", for instance "Jag tycker om att äta" - "I like to eat". But if somebody asks you, "Vad tycker du om detta?" the "om" there works as "about" because "om" could mean "about". So to say "What do you think about this?" in Swedish, you would say "Vad tycker du om detta?" or "Vad tycker du om denna?" So "Vad tycker du om", "Vad tänker du om" - the "om" is "about".

And then, "tycker" is used to express opinion. "Jag tycker" - "I think", but what you're saying is, "My opinion is. I think like this." "Jag tycker att" - "I think that", and then you give your opinion.

"I like it." How do you say that, "I like it"? And let's use "tycker om" to say "like". You can actually use "gillar" that we learned before as well. So if you say "I like it" with "gillar", how would you say that?

Jag gillar det or jag gillar den, depends on what you're talking about, but you could also use tycker om. And of course, if you prefer one or the other because you think it's easier, for instance, gillar might be easier to you, so in that case you can use gillar all the time basically, because it's very common. But it's good to also know the alternative, especially when the alternative is also extremely common.

So, "tycka om, you'll hear that very often. So, how do you say "I like it" using tycker om?

Jag tycker om det, or jag tycker om den. If you want to say "home", how would you do that? Home. Hem, and of course it's ett hem.

"I shall go home." Jag ska gå hem.

"Are you" meaning plural, "are you going home? Answer now." Ska ni gå hem, or ska ni gå hem, depending on the pronunciation, both are acceptable. Ska ni gå hem? Svara nu.

Answer now: svara nu.

"Who is going home with them?" Vem ska gå hem med dem? So, "with" is med. Med dem, and you can spell it D-O-M if you want to. "Eat, you are going to like it." Okay, there's different ways of saying this, of course.

But "eat" is ät. Du kommer tycka om den, or du kommer tycka om det. You can also say gilla, so du kommer gilla det, or du kommer gilla den. Okay so let's acquire a few new words. To say physician, like doctor, we already know how to say doctor.

How do you say doctor in Swedish?

Doktor, doktor. And to say doctors, how do you say that?

Doktorer. En doktor is a doctor, so to actually say physician, you would say läkare, läkare. And that means a medical doctor, a physician, läkare. It actually comes from the same root as läka, which means to heal. So in Swedish, you actually say a doctor or medical doctor what you're saying is healer, literally you're calling the person a healer, which in English would uh draw the mind to other types of uh endeavors, but in in Swedish, it's it's the common way of saying medical doctor: läkare.

Hospital, hospital is sjukhus, ett sjukhus.

Now hus, what does that mean? Hus is house. So you can almost guess what sjuk means.

Sjuk is sick.

So a sick house, sjukhus, literally sick house, That's what it means. It's two words combined, which of course you do very often in Swedish. That's why you have some really long words. What you have is two different words, sometimes even more, that you put together and you create a new word. So sjukhus means sick house, and of course you would say hospital in English.
