Find SFI where you live

To the municipality (kommun) where you live, usually through the adult education (vuxenutbildning or Komvux) pages on its website. Find your municipality above for its schools and a link to its website.

Often, in municipalities with several schools, you can say which one you prefer when you apply, and choose between daytime, evening and distance study. The municipality makes the final placement. Studying in another municipality is possible only in some cases, with special reasons.

Yes. SFI is free of charge in every municipality in Sweden.

There is no official ranking. The pass rate column shows the share of course places that ended with a pass, which mostly reflects how many people drop out, and that depends a lot on who studies there. Almost everyone who finishes a course passes it, everywhere. Use the numbers as a rough guide, and ask the municipality about class times and formats that fit your life.

Every municipality must offer SFI to the people who live there, but small municipalities often buy places from a neighbour or a contracted provider, or offer distance study. You still apply to your own municipality.

There is no fixed length: you move up when you pass a course. Since 1 January 2026 the right to SFI lasts three years from the day you are admitted, with extensions for special reasons.
