Complete Swedish – Season 2 · Lesson 4 of 44 · 7 min

Swedish words varje (every) and tillsammans (together)

This lesson builds sentences around varje (every), as in we work every day, and tillsammans (together), as in they eat together. It also reviews här versus hit for here, and the two verbs for like, gillar and tycker om, in a sentence about a child's food preferences.

What the lesson covers

The lesson began with a review of "I work with him" (Jag arbetar med honom), noting a common grammatical mistake made even by native speakers (using "han" instead of "honom").

Next, "varje" was introduced, with examples like "We work every day" (Vi arbetar varje dag / Vi jobbar varje dag) and "Every day is important" (Varje dag är viktig). The word "viktig" (important) was also introduced. The lesson covered sentence structures like "Every day for me has been good" (Varje dag för mig har varit bra) and "She's here every day" (Hon är här varje dag). A distinction was made between "här" (here, stationary) and "hit" (here, with motion), as in "I'm coming here" (jag kommer hit).

Then, "tillsammans" (together) was taught, with examples such as "They eat together" (De äter tillsammans) and "We eat kebab together everyday" (Vi äter kebab tillsammans varje dag). The lesson also revisited the verbs for "to like" ("gillar" and "tycker om"), demonstrating sentences like "My child likes pasta, but I do not like pasta" (Mitt barn gillar pasta, men jag gillar inte pasta). "Barn" (child) was clarified as an "ett-word".

Finally, the lesson touched on sentence structure with "We come together, we go together" (Vi kommer tillsammans, vi går tillsammans) and "Together we are big" (Tillsammans är vi stora), highlighting a grammatical inversion (är vi instead of vi är) that will be explained in the next lesson.

How the lesson starts

So now we are at lesson four, and we're going to look at how you can say "every", the word "every", like every day, every night, and we're also going to talk a little bit about doing things together in a group. So, using that word for "together".

So, the word for "every" in Swedish, we're going to talk about that. But before we do that, how do you say "I work with him", "I work with him"?

Jag arbetar med honom. And if you said, "Jag arbetar med han", then what you literally said was, "I work with he". But, of course, you would say "him". Jag arbetar med honom. Although, just a side note, a lot of native speakers of Swedish will sometimes make that mistake and say, "Jag arbetar med han".

Technically, that's grammatically incorrect,
