How to apply for SFI in Pajala
- 1Get registered
You need to live in Pajala, which for most people means being registered with Skatteverket (folkbokförd) with a personnummer. You also need to be at least 16 and lack basic Swedish. EU citizens can sometimes start before they are registered.
- 2Apply to Pajala municipality
Look for vuxenutbildning (adult education) or Komvux on the municipality's website. Most municipalities have an online form you sign with BankID; ask the municipality if you don't have BankID yet.
- 3Placement
You are invited to a meeting where they ask about your education and test the Swedish you already have. That decides your study path (1, 2 or 3) and whether you start at course A, B, C or D.
- 4Start, and keep moving
Ask whether there are evening or distance options if you work. Since 1 January 2026 the right to SFI lasts three years from the day you are admitted, so plan to study steadily.
