How to apply for SFI in Skellefteå
- 1Get registered
You need to live in Skellefteå, which for most people means being registered with Skatteverket (folkbokförd) with a personnummer. You also need to be at least 16 and lack basic Swedish. EU citizens can sometimes start before they are registered.
- 2Apply to Skellefteå municipality

- 4Start, and keep moving
Ask whether there are evening or distance options if you work. Since 1 January 2026 the right to SFI lasts three years from the day you are admitted, so plan to study steadily.
