Swedish listening practice: a restaurant invitation
What the lesson covers
This lesson focuses on Swedish listening and translation exercises, where audio is played twice, followed by an opportunity to explain or translate before the text is revealed. The first exercise revolves around a person's visit to a restaurant with their brother, recommending the pasta, and inviting someone to go the next day to reserve a table. The second exercise covers responding to an invitation, discussing meeting locations, availability (being home all day but working in the evening), and suggesting a meeting time for 1 o'clock, introducing words like "idé" (idea), "men" (but), and "tror" (think/believe).

How the lesson starts
The opening of the lesson transcript. The rest is in the course, synced to the video.
Another day, another listening exercise. In these exercises, we're going to make it a little bit easier to understand what's being said by simply repeating the Swedish audio twice. And then you'll have the opportunity to explain it in your own words and perhaps to translate it all if you're able. Or maybe just explain what was being said in rough terms.
And then of course you'll have access to the text like usual. So in this listening exercise, we're going to talk about food. So let's start with listening to the audio twice.
Jag var på restaurangen igår med min bror. Maten var bra och jag kan rekommendera pastan. Jag vill gå dit imorgon. Vill du komma med mig?
The video plays beside a transcript that follows it line by line. Swedish words are underlined; tap one and the video pauses, the meaning appears, and the word goes into your library. At the end there is a five-question quiz written from this exact lesson, and every word can be practised out loud.
