Swedish sports vocabulary and the word som
What the lesson covers
This lesson focused on discussing sports in Swedish and using the word "as." It introduced vocabulary for sports such as "golf," "fotboll" (soccer), "minigolf," and "basket" (basketball). Key phrases learned include "att spela" (to play), "Jag spelar golf" (I play golf), "Jag vill spela" (I want to play), and expressions for liking, loving, or hating sports using "gillar," "älskar," and "hatar." The word "samma" means "same," often used with "vill ha" as in "Jag vill ha samma" (I want the same). The lesson also explained that the Swedish word "som" is used to convey the meaning of "as" or "like," as seen in examples like "Jag vill ha samma som dig" (I want the same as you) and "Jag är som dig" (I am like you).

How the lesson starts

Now, I want to cover two different things. I want to cover sports, like talking about sports, participating in sports, and I want to also talk about how you use the word "as" in Swedish.
And it will become more clear when we give some examples. But before we jump into that, let's just first look at sports, and we're going to look at one sport that we haven't covered, which is golf. To say golf in Swedish, that's very simple. It's the same word, and you would just say golf, golf.

The video plays beside a transcript that follows it line by line. Swedish words are underlined; tap one and the video pauses, the meaning appears, and the word goes into your library. At the end there is a five-question quiz written from this exact lesson, and every word can be practised out loud.
