Swedish verbs: ligga, stå, sitta
What the lesson covers
The lesson serves as a practical application and remembrance session for Swedish phrases, focusing on verbs of position such as "att ligga" (to lie/be situated), "att stå" (to stand), and "att sitta" (to sit). A significant emphasis is placed on the common Swedish usage of "ligger" (to lie) for inanimate objects being situated, even where English might simply use "is" (`är`). The lesson encourages the use of "ligger" over "är" for objects' positions, while acknowledging that "är" would still be understood. It also covers prepositions like "på" (on), "nära" (near), and "vid" (at/by), noting that "nära" can often substitute "vid" if uncertain. Additionally, it briefly touches upon the possessive pronoun "sin" (his/her own) which can be used for both "han" (he) and "hon" (she), and introduces the adjective "stor" (big). Participants practice forming sentences using these concepts in various scenarios.

How the lesson starts

Let's now look at how we can use the knowledge that we gained from the earlier lesson and try to use that in some real-life use cases.
Okay, so before we begin practicing, it's probably good to do a short remembrance or rekindle our memory here. How do we say "to lie"? We would say "att ligga". Or "it lies" would be "den ligger".
Now, we're talking about lies in terms of something being situated, not in terms of somebody speaking untruths, which in English is spelled the same. But here we're talking about something being situated. So let's say, "It lies on the chair." So, if you remember, "chair" is of course "stol". So how would you say, "It lies on the chair"?
The video plays beside a transcript that follows it line by line. Swedish words are underlined; tap one and the video pauses, the meaning appears, and the word goes into your library. At the end there is a five-question quiz written from this exact lesson, and every word can be practised out loud.
