Swedish words ending in -port

This lesson uses the -port ending as a memory aid, since words like transport and support look almost identical in Swedish. It contrasts this with the more reliable -tion pattern, and reviews dit versus där, sedan (since) and mår bra (to feel well).

What the lesson covers

The lesson introduces a Swedish structure using the -port ending, which often mirrors English words like rapport, port, sport, support, and transport, to facilitate memorization. While some of these can form verbs (e.g., rapportera, transportera), not all follow this rule, though incorrect usage is often still understood. This is contrasted with the more consistent -tion ending (e.g., information, informera). The lesson also reviews concepts such as "to go" (att gå), "to be" (att vara), the use of "dit" for motion versus "där" for static location, "since" (sedan), "to feel well" (mår bra), and the word "för" for "too" as in "too kind," while noting the modern use of "nice" alongside the traditional "snäll."

How the lesson starts

The opening of the lesson transcript. The rest is in the course, synced to the video.

going to stick with our philosophy of trying to borrow knowledge from English as that makes it a lot easier to remember.

Let's look at a new structure this time using the ending -port. This doesn't work all the time, and if you're unsure and you want to use the same structure, you will still be understood, which is the most important thing. So, even if you're technically not correct, you will probably still be understood.

And the structure, the way it works, is you have a word like "report".

In Swedish that becomes rapport, rapport.

For the word "port", it's just port, port.

For "sport", spelled the same: sport.

And "support", also, you guessed, the same. How would you pronounce it in Swedish, if you were to guess?
