Swedish travel vocabulary: train and plane

This lesson combines office vocabulary, kontor, with practical travel words: tåg (train), flygplan (plane) and flyger (to fly). It practises describing size with stor and stort depending on noun gender, and forming questions with eller (or) about which mode of transport to take.

What the lesson covers

This lesson combines office vocabulary with travel by plane and train. You learn kontor (office) and how to say you were or worked at the office using time words like igår, idag, and imorgon, including negation with inte and questions with inverted word order (for example, *Var jag på kontoret igår?*).

The lesson also revisits tro (to believe) and vet (to know), then moves into travel language: flygplan / plan (airplane), tåg (train), tar (take), and flyger (fly). You practice locating the train or plane, describing size with stort versus stor depending on ett versus en words, and choosing between tåget, planet, and flyget. The lesson also notes that Swedish typically uses *vi flyger* rather than a literal "we are flying" construction, and introduces eller (or) in questions such as whether you take the train or the flight.

How the lesson starts

about traveling, and specifically traveling by plane, by train, getting around. First, let's look at how to say "office". So, to say "an office" in Swedish you would say ett kontor, ett kontor. That's an office. Do you recall how to say "yesterday"?

I går.

So, how did you say "I was in my office yesterday", or "I was literally on my office yesterday"?

Jag var på mitt kontor i går.

Jag var på mitt kontor i går.

Okay, so instead of saying "my office", let's say "the office". "I was in the office yesterday." Jag var på kontoret i går.

Jag var på kontoret i går.
