What happens
In the time of Emperor Augustus a holy night falls over the earth: completely dark and utterly still, so still that rivers stop and no animal hunts. In Rome the old emperor is carried up to the Capitol with a few friends, carrying doves to sacrifice, because the senators want to build him a temple and he first wants to know whether the gods allow it. At the top they find, crouched on the edge of the rock and staring out into the night, the ancient Sibyl.
The opening of a legend from Kristuslegender (1904). The night is the night of Christ's birth, and the Sibyl's vision will show the emperor whom the world should worship instead.
