Hear it in context: Swedish words in real lessons

Type a Swedish word or phrase and hear it in a full sentence, said by a native teacher in a real lesson. Every clip plays the moment and stops, so you can replay it as often as you like.

Pick a line to hear it in the lesson.

Why hear a word in a sentence

A dictionary gives you a word on its own, said carefully. In real speech it is shorter, linked to the words around it, and stressed differently: jag har sounds like ja har, and det är like de e. Hearing the same word in several sentences teaches you the version people actually say.

How to use it

Search the word, play the first few clips and repeat each sentence out loud straight after the teacher. Then search another form of it: bil, bilen, bilar. When a clip catches your interest, press Keep watching and the lesson carries on from there.

Frequently asked questions

Where do the clips come from?

From the 49 lessons of Complete Swedish, our free beginner course (A1 to A2). The search reads the lesson transcripts and plays the video from just before the moment the word is said.

Why is the teacher speaking English?

The course is taught in English with the Swedish in between, so many lines mix the two. Lines that are mostly Swedish come first in the results; lines where the teacher talks about the word come after.

Why does my word have no results?

The search matches whole words, so bil does not find bilen. Try the base form, another form of the word, or a shorter phrase. Rare words may simply not come up in a beginner course; the dictionary has every word with examples.

Is it free?

Yes. Season 1 of the course is free in full, with or without an account, and so is this search.
