At the pharmacy (På apoteket)

Prescriptions in Sweden are electronic and linked to your personal identity number, so the pharmacist will ask for that number and your ID before anything else.

Level A2
  1. Staff

Hej, vad kan jag hjälpa till med?

Hi, what can I help you with?

  2. You

Hej, jag ska hämta ut ett recept.

Hi, I'm picking up a prescription.

"Hämta ut" = collect. Also "hämta ut medicin".

  3. Staff

    Vad är ditt personnummer?

    What's your personal identity number?

  4. You

Nittio, noll tre, femton, fyra fem sex sju.

    90-03-15-4567.

People read the number in pairs, then the last four digits one by one or in pairs.

  5. Staff

Och så får jag se legitimation.

And I need to see ID.

  6. Staff

Okej, jag ser två recept här. Ska du ha båda?

Okay, I see two prescriptions here. Do you want both?

  7. You

    Bara det första, tack.

    Just the first one, please.

  8. Staff

Har du tagit den här medicinen förut?

Have you taken this medicine before?

  9. You

    Nej, det är första gången.

    No, it's the first time.

  10. Staff

Då ska du ta en tablett morgon och kväll, gärna med mat.

Then take one tablet morning and evening, preferably with food.

  11. Staff

Den här finns som ett billigare utbytbart alternativ. Går det bra?

There is a cheaper equivalent of this one. Is that okay?

Pharmacies are required to offer the cheapest equivalent medicine. You can say no and pay the difference.

  12. You

    Ja, det går bra.

    Yes, that's fine.

  13. Staff

Det blir åttiofem kronor. Du har inte nått högkostnadsskyddet än.

That's 85 kronor. You haven't reached the high-cost cap yet.

"Högkostnadsskydd" = the yearly cap on what you pay for prescription medicine.

  14. You

Okej. Kan jag också köpa något mot huvudvärk?

Okay. Can I also buy something for a headache?

  15. Staff

Javisst, det finns receptfritt. Jag visar dig.

Of course, there's some over the counter. I'll show you.

    "Receptfritt" = without a prescription.

Good to know

  • Bring a valid ID. To collect someone else's medicine they usually need to give you permission, which can often be done in the pharmacy's app or online with BankID.
  • There are several pharmacy chains, not only Apoteket. Your e-prescription works at all of them.
  • The high-cost cap counts over twelve months from your first purchase. Once you reach the limit, prescription medicine is free for the rest of that period.
